Established in 2016 as part of the college curricula of Under Graduate (UG) Programme along with the start of the college in the same year, the department has been offering honors degree in political science. At present, the student intake capacity is 42 in honors in each of the three years of the UG program.

The courses offered under this program have been designed by Sambalpur University under the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) since 2016 and is now part of the state-wide UG Common Syllabus. Besides core courses, the syllabus features discipline-specific and generic elective courses. Each of these courses aims at imparting both theoretical and practical knowledge in political studies. A student after passing this program can go on to seek higher studies as well as employment both in the government and private sector. 

The teaching-learning process in the department is student-centric. The teachers are highly qualified and experienced in pedagogy. The teaching-learning environment is supported by co-curricular activities including seminars and guest lectures and observation of days of national and international importance. 

The department has produced over the years under graduates who have progressed to higher studies in important universities in India. We have a good track record of examination results.
