About

Establishment: UG -2023
Sanctioned Teaching Posts: 02
Sanctioned Student Strength: UG – 32

The Department of Anthropology was established in the year 2016 along with the establishment of this college itself offering a three-year BA program. It has an intake capacity of 32 sheets. It has a properly resourced laboratory for practical classes.

Courses offered:

The courses offered are revised by the Sambalpur University in every three years. This follows the CBCS guidelines having 18 core papers and 4 GE papers. All papers have practical components enriching the learning process. In Paper 5, project work is given on anthropological thoughts, and in paper 6 students have to prepare a 3-dimensional project related to environmental issues. Students also prepare a project on paper-8(about data collection from the population) and paper- 12 (about the Census of India). The paper 14 involves fieldwork in tribal villages.

Co-curricular and extra-curricular activity:

The Department every year conducts different co-curricular activities including competitions in drawing, debate, theme-based Jhhoti (Alpana), mono-act, essay, and general knowledge. Student-student interactions are facilitated through welcome and farewell functions. A drama is also conducted for students to learn acting and motivation regarding life.

Career Prospects:

After completion of the Anthropology Honors course, one student can be able to write a report on research-based works, can conduct fieldwork, and can very well collect data from the general population. A student of Anthropology can do some statistical analysis, and complete anthropometric measurements, can very well do blood grouping experiments, also able to do environmental issue-related projects. For all government exams, one student can apply like IAS/OAS, railways, bank clerks/Pos, etc.

Achievements:

We have produced about 150 graduates and 90 of them have passed with 1st class honours. Among these students, 6 students (admission batch 2017) were rank holders at the university level. Similarly, in 2021 and 2022, a total of three students achieved the same feat. Some students have now completed their M. Phil from Sambalpur University.
